Getting started

Do I need an account?

Yes. A free account is what lets the site remember your sobriety date, your streak, and your notification preferences from one visit to the next. Sign up with just an email address and a password.

Why do I need to verify my email?

It confirms the account is really yours and is how milestone and check-in emails reach you. After signing up, click the link we send you — you won't be able to log in until you do.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes, you need to be 18 or older. You'll confirm this when you create your account.

Tracking your progress

How does the site know how long I've been sober?

You set a sobriety date when you sign up, or any time afterward in your profile. Everything else — the day count, your progress toward the next milestone, your streak length — is calculated from that date automatically. There's nothing to check in daily unless you want to.

What are milestones?

Named checkpoints in your streak — 1 day, 1 week, 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, and then every year after that. Your dashboard shows the next one you're working toward, and celebrates each one as you reach it.

What's the achievements timeline?

It's the part of your dashboard that lays out every milestone you've ever reached, grouped by streak, so you can see your whole history at a glance — including where one streak ended and the next one began.

Updating your sobriety date

What happens if I change my sobriety date to a more recent one?

The site treats it as the start of a new streak: your day count resets to zero from the new date. This is the mechanism for logging a relapse — you don't need to find a separate button, just update the date on your profile.

Do I lose my past milestones?

No. Nothing is deleted. Every milestone you'd already reached stays on your achievements timeline under its original streak, with a marker showing where the new one started.

Can I do this from a milestone email without logging in?

Yes. Milestone and check-in emails include a private, one-tap link where you can confirm you're still going or start a new streak directly — no login needed.

Notifications & emails

What emails will I get?

Two kinds, both optional: a milestone celebration the day you reach a tracked milestone, and a monthly check-in around your sobriety anniversary with a short progress update and a tip.

Can I turn emails off?

Yes. Milestone emails and monthly check-ins can each be switched off independently in your profile settings, without affecting your tracked progress.

I hit a milestone but didn't get an email — why?

Check that email notifications are turned on in your profile, then check your spam folder. Milestone emails are sent once per milestone per streak, on the day you reach it.

Cost

Is Sobriety.zone free?

Yes, completely. There's no subscription, no paid tier, and nothing to upgrade to.

Your data & privacy

What information does the site store about me?

Just what you give it: your name, email, sobriety date, timezone, and notification preferences. See the Privacy Policy for the complete picture.

Can I download my data?

Yes. Your profile page has an export option that gives you a file with your profile details, sobriety date, and full milestone history.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, any time, from your profile page. You'll be asked to re-enter your password to confirm, and everything tied to your account is removed permanently.

Is my data shared with anyone?

We don't sell or rent it. It only passes through a small number of service providers we rely on to run the site — hosting and email delivery — covered in the Privacy Policy.

Articles & tips

What's in the Articles section?

Short pieces on the practical and emotional realities of staying sober — things like handling cravings or rebuilding trust — written to be read in a few minutes.

Where do the daily tips on my dashboard come from?

They're short, rotating messages shown on your dashboard and in your monthly check-in email.
